Food Safety Atlas

Incidents, complaints and inspections

Decision 1 of 8

Recognise what it is

What happens

Whoever receives it works out the kind of event: a food safety complaint, a quality complaint, a , an equipment failure, staff illness, or an inspection.

Good looks like

A polite comment about a sliver of plastic counts as food safety. So does a call the next day about feeling sick. The class follows what is alleged, not what you believe.

How it goes wrong

A goes in the as 'quality' because the guest was nice about it. No one looks at the batch, and it keeps going out through dinner.

Could it involve illness, injury, an allergen, contamination or a foreign object?Yes: Treat it as food safety: act now and tell a manager at once. No: Treat it as a quality complaint, but still record it. Patterns start here.
